Master potter Humberto Ponce
created this spectacular olla. Divided into five identical segments of
incredibly detailed painting of contrasting red an black cuadritos forming stylized snakes. Notice the Native symbols that create the tails of the
snakes.
A smaller, very similar olla by Humberto & Blanca Ponce was featured in the exhibition presented at the
Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe. (Exhibition Catalog, Crossing Borders Transcending Categories pg.37)
This elegant olla is masterfully painted, has a superb form, and splendid stone burnished sheen....a wonderful piece!
