Spectacular terracotta-red colored  olla by potter Diego Valles. 

This beautifully formed olla has a very delicate etching that contrasts with the traditional Mata Ortiz painted bands in white. Do click on the close up picture below to see the subtle etching.

Diego Valles has just been honored with one of the most prestigious awards given by the Mexican government, the Premio Nacional de la  Juventud.  He will receive this award from the hands of the President of Mexico.

This  January Diego was awarded Best of Show in the biannual International Ceramic competition in Minneapolis. There were more than 210 studio potters from North and Central America that participated in this competition!
