Delicate light-emerald colored beauty by Jose Quezada one of the most successful
second generation Mata Ortiz potters.
Jose Quezada is the eldest son of master potter Nicolas Quezada, pioneer artist of
Mata Ortiz. Frequently Jose's pieces command higher prices than his famous father's .
Jose masterfully decorated this olla with detailed black and red painting that bring out the beauty of this fine soft lime
clay. This very special color is achieved by mixing very small amounts of copper oxide with the white clay found in the mountains surrounding Mata Ortiz.
The design is perfectly balanced and symmetrical...beautiful piece!
