Absolutely spectacular
contemporary olla by artist potter Diego Valles.
Diego Valles is arguably the most exciting artist of Mata
Ortiz pottery today. As you can see by this wonderful work of art, he is taking Mata Ortiz pottery to a new level, that off Contemporary Art. Using
traditional elements such as the shape of an olla and classic lacelike Mata Ortiz painting, he is creating new forms full of expressiveness and
simplicity.
The precision with which he forms and then cuts out elements is outstanding...probably a reflection of his formal education as an
engineer.
This particular piece has such fluidity and dynamism. The form of the pot the cut out elements as well as the delicate painting
contribute to a wonderful sense of movement.
Diego has won numerous awards for his innovative use of different pottery techniques to create his beautiful
ollas. Last year he represented Mexico at the 40th annual International Tourism Fair in Berlin Germany.
This gorgeous olla was created for a national pottery competition, fortunately we saw it before Diego sent it out
and we were able to acquire it.
Certainly one of the most spectacular ollas I have seen!
